Snowfall on Halloween doesn’t come around too often here in Wisconsin. But this year, we’ve not only received snow on Halloween – we’ve also had a record-breaking amount come in to our Northeast Wisconsin area! So, what does this mean for our lawns?…

There are a couple of different areas to analyze with this heavy snowfall. One area to look at is the temperate of the ground. It’s important to understand that this is an extra-ordinary event that has occurred, and, since the ground is not yet frozen over and the air temperatures are not going to remain freezing, the grass might go through a slight shock from the frozen water temporarily covering it, but it will be able to quickly adapt back into its normal Fall habitat and routines just fine.

Another area to cover on this topic would be in regard to the fertilizer treatments that many of our customers are still on schedule to receive, once the snow melts away. The good news about rain or snow is that both of these are very good for fertilizer treatments. Essentially, fertilizers need to be able to reach the root system, and to do so, the fertilizers need to be able to mix with water. The fertilizer will be able to break down with either rain or snow, which are both mother nature’s assistance in providing a green and healthy, well-fed lawn.
