Nine years ago, a group of conservationists and animal lovers got together to create a day that can be set aside to learn about and remember the importance of conserving wild animals, plants and habitats for future generations.

What does Storm The Lawn Pro of the Fox Cities have in common with World Wildlife Conservation Day?

Being in the lawn care/landscaping industry, our company and its applicators are required, by law, to thoroughly study the ecosystems within our immediate environmental surroundings here in Northeastern Wisconsin. Studying and becoming experts of ecosystems in and around lawns and our properties is what allows us to identify patterns in lawn diseases, drought stressors, insect damages, etc and to appropriately discern what a healthy amount of organisms are in the ecosystem and what an unhealthy amount are in an effort to maintain balance. The health of the environment impacts our own health and well-being as humans in a very direct manner. It is important for human health, both physically and mentally, to spend time in nature. Additionally, wildlife plays a huge role in providing essential ecosystem services, such as natural pest control. However, here in Northeastern Wisconsin, we do not always have the appropriate kinds of wildlife in our location now days, nor the necessary amounts of wildlife to keep many of our environmental pests under control.

Therefore, it is important to us to assist in controlling the balance of the pest population in order to avoid significant damage that takes a long time to recover from, dramatic changes in the food web, and to avoid an overpopulation of pests causing such an imbalance that certain ecosystems that promote positive environmental health end up collapsing. (… so they are called “pests” for good reason, especially when there is an overpopulation, which tends to occur in a very rapid fashion!)

All in all, biodiverse ecosystems create well-balanced, high-functioning environments. Once we as Lawn Pros can become aware of and identify the imbalance in an ecosystem that is causing a problem on your property, then we are able to diagnose and recommend a fitting treatment plan for recovery and maintenance going forward.
